Message from the OOAE Chair, 2009-2010
The Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering Division is concerned
with a wide-range of technical competencies, including environmental
loading, hydrodynamic behavior, materials selection, structural
strength, and safety.
Historically, there has been an emphasis on ships, floating
units and subsea equipment associated with the oil & gas
industry. Recently, ocean renewable energies, such as from waves,
tides, currents and offshore wind, have provided new areas of
substantial interest.
The main activity of the OOAE is the annual International Conference
on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering (OMAE). The very successful
28th OMAE was held in June in Honolulu, Hawaii, with nearly
700 attendees. The 29th OMAE will be held in June 2010 in Shanghai,
China.
The OMAE Conference is widely recognized as the primary international
forum for technical exchanges in the above-mentioned areas.
Academia, industry and regulatory institutions are well-represented.
The OMAE conference proceedings are indexed in the Index to
Scientific & Technical Proceedings/ISI Proceedings (Web
of Knowledge) and the Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings
(Print). This is a very special distinction, recognizing the
quality of the OMAE papers, of which we are most proud.
On behalf of the OOAE Division of ASME, I would like to invite
you to OMAE2010 in Shanghai (www.omae2010.com).
The conference promises to be an excellent opportunity to maintain
knowledge of state-of-the-art advancements in ocean, offshore
and arctic engineering.
