Welcome to the website of the Ocean, Offshore, and Arctic Engineering (OOAE) Division of ASME. Members of the OOAE Division are involved in a diverse range of engineering activities related to the challenging marine environment – be it offshore drilling in deep waters, developing emerging technologies in the ocean renewable sectors, protecting marine and foreshore habitat, or developing structures for extreme ice loading. Since the activities are broad and extend to all reaches of the globe, it is no wonder that the OOAE Division has the most diverse membership in the ASME.

WindFloat wins Innovation Award from Renewable Energy World.com

Please join me in congratulating our colleague, Dominique Roddier, and his team, on winning the Excellence in Renewable Energy Awards for Innovation. The award, given by Renewable Energy World.com, recognizes the innovative design of the WindFloat, the world's first semi-submersible structure supporting a multi-megawatt wind turbine. A prototype unit was recently installed offshore Portugal.

The division has established eight technical committees headed by individual chairpersons. Each committee focuses on a particular area of ocean, offshore and arctic engineering. According to the bylaws, the OOAE Division operates at the committee and sub-committee levels. Bylaws and Operating Guide of OOAE

The Bylaws of the OOAE Division have gone through extensive revisions after the merger of the OMAE Division with the OE Division in 1999. The Bylaws were revised in October of 2001 and again in June of 2006. They have been approved by the ASME. In order to be consistent with ASME policy, the By-Laws are now to be referenced as the “Legacy OOAE By-Laws”.

OOAE DIVISION ACHIEVEMENT AWARD The OOAE Division Achievement Award was established on December 12, 1985 in recognition of OOAE primary members who have contributed significantly to the organization of division-sponsored conferences symposia. The award plaque is presented to recipients annually or biennially by the OOAE Division. ASME members with OOAE Division as primary can nominate. The nominees must have contributed significantly to the organizing of the OOAE Division sponsored symposia. The Committee recommends to the Executive Committee for final decisions.
