Conference Name Change:
Effective starting with OMAE2009, the OOAE Division has changed the name of the conference to the International Conference on Ocean, Offshore, and Arctic Engineering. Several years ago, the division's name was changed, and now this name change aligns the conference and division names. In addition, the new name reflects the increased scope of the technical content of the conference, which has evolved over the years and has expanded beyond the original scope, which was reflected in the old name of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering. This decision was made in the February 2008 meeting of the OOAE Division's EC and EEC.

USS Albacore is designated a Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark.
Submitted by John Robinson,
June 2000. Having
served as a
prototype for modern-day submarine concepts and virtually changing the
future design development and functionality of the U.S. undersea fleet, the
USS. Albacore (AGSS-569) was designated a historic mechanical
engineering landmark, Saturday morning, May 13, 2000 at Albacore Park (Port of
Portsmouth Maritime Museum), in Portsmouth, N.H. The intermittent drizzle did
nothing to dampen the spirits of some 80 attendees who gathered under the tent
in front of the
museum.
Mr. John T. Robinson, the nominator of the landmark, represented the OOAE
Division, which sponsored a reception at the Sheraton Harborside following the
ceremony.
